Hello! I'm Michele Welton and I have over 35 years experience as a dog breed advisor, obedience instructor, canine psychologist, veterinary technician, and author of 17 books about dogs, cats, and pet birds.

I've trained and shown dogs in competitive obedience, agility, herding, tracking, and schutzhund. I've worked with therapy dogs, police dogs, show dogs, and companion dogs.

I know dogs. So when I explain the pros and cons of different dog breeds, different dog foods, or different dog training methods, you're getting honest opinions and information based on a lifetime of experience and research.

Mouse and Buffy. Mouse is a blue Chihuahua – yes, it really is called blue, even though it's gray. Buffy is a cream Miniature Poodle, clipped to look like a normal dog instead of the frou-frou look!

Here is our Miniature Poodle, Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Buffy is smart, obedient, and loves everyone (except vampires!). She was the mascot of my husband's third grade classroom for many years.

Beside her is our Chihuahua, Mouse. A rescue group diagnosed her with a liver tumor and skin disease, and scheduled her for euthanasia. So we stepped in and took her, and happily, we got those health problems under control.

Unhappily, Mouse was also born with a serious neurological disorder called syringomyelia, which reminds us each day just how precious and fragile life is.

Jenna is a 7-pound Papillon who is loaded with energy and obsessed with fetching squeaky balls and toys. For hours. And hours. Here's what all of Jenna's pictures look like.

Kelly and Princess, the first dogs I ever trained, when I was a teenager. They were such happy dogs, as well as well-trained. I can show you how to have a happy, obedient dog, too.

Bit of personal stuff....

Yes, that's me when I played on a women's hockey team. Those were the days!

I grew up in New England playing and coaching baseball, playing ice hockey, and riding horses in barrel racing and gymkhana events.

Flash-forward a few decades to now.... you'll find me reading and writing books, or watching a thought-provoking documentary or science fiction show. I'm particularly fond of my T-shirt that says, "All my favorite TV shows have wormholes!"
