Andrew Rigatto:
"I am completely blown away by your vocabulary and respect program. You've pulled everything together into one solid package of sensible dog training. Anyone can follow this program, no experience needed, and end up with a much better dog. Congratulations on an outstanding job!"

Dennis Appleberry:
"In my humble opinion, this is the most practical course on family dog training you will find anywhere. Whatever your dog needs to know, it's in this book."

Kelly Eggers:
"Let me know when you write your next book. I definitely want a copy! You have helped me so much with my dog, I am so grateful."

Connie Hiller:
"No dog owner can afford to be WITHOUT this book. It is the most sensible teaching program I've ever read. The lessons are easy to understand and easy to follow."

Rhonda Sacowicz:
"Michele, I love the way you write. Wish I could write so well. Super book, I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a smarter dog."

Gordon Eckhart:
"After only three days of using the respect training program in your ebook, the difference in my dogs is unbelievable! Thank you for writing this for us, Michele."

Deb Gulick:
"I have three Goldens who are good natured goofballs. I love them dearly but when they get excited they don't pay much attention to me. I tried just a few of your suggestions and it's like this light bulb went on in their heads. This is a great program Michelle. You've really outdone yourself!"

Jennifer Adcock:
"In just a couple of days I've taught my Rhodesian Ridgeback whose name is Kyle, seven new words that I never would have thought of teaching him. They're so useful!"

Ed Ruethling:
"I just downloaded your eBook and am very excited about it. I love the way you write and have formatted everything -- it's concise and to the point. BTW, thank you very much for putting such a reasonable price on your book."

Andi Sheets:
"I love my dog Junie, but he was impossible to live with, what with the "accidents" on the floor, chewing the table legs, etc. I was just days away from giving up on him. Now I've seen a 1000% improvement in his attitude toward me. He is his same lovable self but paying attention to me now. Thanks Michele, keep up the good work!"

Michelle Farruni:
"This is fun! After just a couple of days following your instructions, I can now "send" my two dogs all over my house -- "Go stairs! Go bed!" Go crate!" and they race each other to be the first to get there. My husband can't believe they learned this so quickly."

Jean Gobeil:
"I have read so many books trying to figure out how to get my dog to listen to me. I should have just bought yours first. All I had to do was follow your plan and everything worked just like you said. Tiki behaves so much better now, I just love it!"

Chris Gonzales:
"I can't thank you enough for this terrific book. It's like a gold mine. It explains just EVERYTHING you need to know to get your dog acting like a gentleman."

Rusty Zimmerman:
"I give your book Two Thumbs Up!!"

Nadina Schmidt:
"I wish I had had your book when Shiloh was a puppie, it would have saved me making a lot of mistakes. But now I do have the book and I'm fixing my mistakes!"

Corene Stormant:
"I collect dog training books and this one is at the top of my short list. I highly recommend it. You will learn TONS of useful information from this book!"

Shomir Banerjee:
"Your book is simply amazing. It went far beyond my expectations. I believe it is going to be the single best investment I have ever made, when it comes to my dog."

Test Your Dog's IQ!

How smart is your dog?

Most owners believe their dog is pretty smart.

White dog sitting and lifting paw to shake"My dog knows how to sit and stay and lie down and do tricks. So he must be smart!"

Sorry, but obedience is not the same thing as intelligence. A dog may be so eager to please that he works hard to do whatever you ask him to do. He can be very obedient, yet can still be a slow learner with poor problem-solving skills, i.e. not so smart.

Dog leading owner around on the leash"Talk about smart! My dog is so smart he knows how to get OUT of following my commands."

Sorry, but rude and disrespectful behavior doesn't indicate intelligence. It simply means that the owner hasn't established the proper pecking order in the household. Rude and disrespectful behavior says something negative about the OWNER, not something positive about the dog.

Purple dog that could be a rare miniature curlyhaired pumpkinhead!"My dog is a Miniature Curlyhaired Pumpkinhead, which is an extremely intelligent breed. So my dog must be pretty smart."

Sorry, but despite the fact that every afficianado of every breed boasts that their breed is extremely intelligent, the reality is that very few breeds have had superior reasoning skills genetically built into the breed. The vast majority of breeders today focus on structure, size, coat, color, "cuteness", friendly personality, etc. True intelligence is not a sought-after trait in purebred dogs.

In addition, most people who claim high intelligence for their breed have owned only a few dogs and/or only a few breeds, so they don't have much to compare with.

Finally, most people who claim high intelligence for their breed haven't done any testing of intelligence. They may know whether their dog is obedient or not -- but they don't necessarily know how intelligent he is.

On the other hand, some owners believe their dog is NOT smart.

Sad looking dog"My dog is so dumb he flunked out of obedience school" or "My dog doesn't understand any commands or do anything I tell him to do."

Sorry, but 9 times out of 10, it's the owner who flunked out of obedience school, the owner who hasn't learned how to communicate with his dog, the owner who has failed to teach the proper leader-follower relationship to his dog. Just because a dog "doesn't do what he's told" doesn't mean he's dumb.

No, you can't judge intelligence
(or the lack of it)
by whether your dog follows
your commands or not.

Because the truth is, canine intelligence varies like this...

  • Some individuals are geniuses.
  • Some are bright.
  • Some are average.
  • Some are below average.
  • And some poor souls couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat.

So how can you REALLY tell whether your dog is smart or not?

Test Your Dog's IQ

"Test Your Dog's IQ!"
includes 25 tests you can do at home
to test your dog's intelligence.

Each test is carefully laid out in easy-to-follow steps, including:

  • a goal
  • the materials you'll need
  • how to set up each test
  • step by step directions for
    • what to do
    • what to say
    • what to watch for in your dog's response
  • specific scores for each of your dog's possible responses

Smiley faceI wrote this 63-page book myself, so if you've been reading my web site, you already know what style of writing to expect from this book:

  • Easy-to-read
  • Conversational
  • Straightforward
  • And humorous!

These tests are very entertaining! Your dog will do things you never would have predicted. If you have a friend who's good with a camera, you'll want to invite her over for some great pictures. A movie camera is perfect. Imagine filming your dog thinking his way through the 25 tests!

Test Your Dog's IQ! measures your dog's:

  1. Learning ability. How quickly your dog learns new words and behaviors.

  2. Problem-solving. How clever or persistent your dog is in figuring out the solution to a problem, in order to gain a reward.

  3. Observation skills. How attentive your dog is to your facial expressions and your body language, and to changes in his environment.

  4. Memory. How LONG your dog remembers what he has seen, heard, or learned.

  5. Curiosity. How interested your dog is in trying something new.

These IQ tests are challenging -- and very revealing. Your dog will receive an actual number that corresponds to his IQ!

Whatever his IQ turns out to be -- whether genius or deficient -- I include specific suggestions for how to work with him so he can reach his greatest potential. Different dogs should be treated differently, each one according to his own abilities.

But don't take this all too seriously.

The tests are supposed to be fun! You and your dog can even cheat if you feel like it. It's not like you're back in high school, with homework to hand in. Instead, picture yourself laughing and enjoying time well spent with one of the best dogs on earth -- your dog.

So... how much does it cost for several days of canine fun and games?
