11 Things You Must Do RIGHT
To Keep Your Dog Healthy and Happy

I'm sure that some of what you've learned
about raising your Golden Retriever
has surprised you.
| I'm sure it's different from what you've read or been told ELSEWHERE. |
For example, you may have read or been told elsewhere...
- That you should feed your Golden a premium dog food (such as Science Diet, Iams, Eukanuba).
- That you should feed your Golden kibble because it's good for his teeth.
- That your dog should chew on rawhide bones (or cornstarch bones, or Greenies, or pig's ears, etc.) to help keep his teeth clean.
- That his teeth should be professionally cleaned by the vet every year or two.
ALL OF THIS IS INCORRECT.
You may have read or been told elsewhere...
- That your Golden Retriever puppy needs a series of vaccinations, i.e. he needs to be vaccinated three or four times.
- That your adult Golden needs booster shots every year.
- That dogs should be vaccinated against eight or ten diseases: distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parainfluenza, parvovirus, coronavirus, rabies, giardia, bordatella (kennel cough), and/or Lyme disease.
- That you should put a flea collar on your dog, or spray him with flea spray, or bathe him with flea shampoo, or give him a dose of prescription flea medication every month to control fleas, ticks, lice, and worms.
ALL OF THIS IS INCORRECT.
You may have read or been told elsewhere...
- That you should use a choke collar for walking or training your Golden Retriever.
- That you should neuter your Golden by six months old.
- That virtually all licensed veterinarians will give your Golden Retriever the proper diagnoses and treatments, so you should choose a vet based on how friendly he and his office staff are, or how happy your dog is to see him, or how reasonable his fees are.
ALL OF THIS IS INCORRECT.
