Poodle comes from the German pudelin, which means "to splash in the water" and refers to the breed's origins as a German water retriever.

France also played a major role in developing the Poodle, which is why many people say "French Poodle".

Poodles come in all sizes. Smallest is the Toy Poodle (to 10 lbs).

The next "official" size is the Miniature Poodle at 20-25 lbs. But notice the gap between a 10-pound Toy and a 20-pound Miniature. This in-between size is unofficially called an oversized Toy or small Mini. This can be an ideal size for many households, as it's sturdier than a normal Toy, but not as energetic as a normal Miniature.
