What is an ebook?
Ebook is short for "electronic" book -- a digital file that you read on your computer screen. It's also called an instant download, because a few clicks with your mouse is all it takes to "download" and save the book onto your computer. Then you can read it whenever you want.
- Works on PC and Mac.
- Takes less than 30 seconds (with a high-speed connection) to download and save on your computer.
- Read the ebook whenever you want. It's saved on your own hard drive, so you don't need to log onto the Internet or come back to my website.
- Completely safe, spyware-free, virus-free.
- All you need on your computer is a simple ebook reading program called Adobe Reader. Most computers already have it. If you need it, you can download it for free from the Adobe website.
Eight advantages of ebooks
1. Ebooks provide immediate information.
You came to the Internet to find information about caring for your dog RIGHT NOW. That's exactly what you get with an instant download.
You can order your ebooks right now and start reading within minutes.
2. In your ebook, you jump quickly to the topics you want to read about.
A clickable Table of Contents (called Bookmarks) takes you instantly to whatever subject you're interested in. It's just like clicking a link on a web site.
3. In your ebook, you can search for any word or phrase.
![]()
...and you'll be taken right to that page.
4. You can change the size of the print so it's comfortable for you to read.
With the click of a button you can make the print size smaller or larger. Everyone in your family can choose a different size print.
5. You can print your ebooks, if you want.
Print the entire book, or just the pages you're interested in.
6. Ebooks are kind to trees.
7. Ebooks are inexpensive.
8. You pay no shipping!
How to download an ebook
Let's practice a download....four easy steps!
Follow these directions EXACTLY.
- Click your RIGHT mouse button on this blue link: TEST FILE
Your RIGHT mouse button -- not the left mouse button that you usually click.
- A gray pop-up menu will appear on your screen. Click on Save Target As or Save Link As or Save File As (but NOT "Save Page As".)
- The "SAVE AS" dialogue box will appear. Make sure the
Save Inbox specifies Desktop for where to save the file. (If it doesn't say Desktop, click on the V-shaped down arrow to the right of the box and choose Desktop.) - Click the Save button to start the download. It's a very small file that will take only a few seconds to download.
How to open and read your downloaded test file
- Go to your Desktop and look for the test file
which will look something like this:
testfile.pdf - To open the file, try double-clicking on the icon on your Desktop. Many computers will respond by automatically launching your Adobe Reader and opening your test file for you.
The test file is a funny story about a parrot. If you can read it, your download was successful. Now you know you can do a download, so you can order your eBook with confidence!
- Other computers are lazy and will make you open your Adobe Reader program yourself.
- Your Adobe Reader program may be an icon on your Desktop. If so, double-click on it to open it. If it's not on your Desktop, click on the green Start button at the bottom left of your screen. Choose "Programs" and see if Adobe Reader is listed as a choice you can select.
- Once Adobe Reader is open on your screen, look at the Adobe menu at the top of the screen. Click on "File", then "Open". In the dialog box that appears, make sure the
Look Inbox specifies Desktop. If it doesn't say Desktop, click on the V-shaped down arrow at the end of the box and choose Desktop. You'll see a list of files on your Desktop. Click on testfile.pdf, click the gray Open button, and begin reading!
If you can't find Adobe Reader on your computer, don't worry. You can download it FREE. Click on the link and Adobe's website will open in a new browser window. You can download Adobe Reader from that new window, while my MY remains here in this window.
Apple/Mac users
If your mouse has only one mouse button, you may be able to simply click that button and the file will automatically download to your Desktop or to a "Downloads" folder. Or you can hold down the Control button on your keyboard when you click on the blue link, which may allow you to save the file wherever you choose.
When you open the test file, be sure you're opening it with Adobe Reader. Some Macs will open PDF files with a program called Preview. Adobe Reader is much better.
